BOSS FAQs

BOSS Frequently Asked Questions

1. Who can participate in BOSS events?

Any single or unaccompanied Service Member. The single or unaccompanied Service Member category includes single Service Members, Unaccompanied Soldiers and Single Parents.

2. How can I sign up for an event?

Registration instructions are always listed at the bottom of the BOSS event advertisements. Contact your unit BOSS Representative or the BOSS President at the Installation BOSS office for additional registration guidance.

3. How can I sign up to volunteer?

We recommend you register directly with Army OneSource’s Volunteer Management Information System (VMIS), the Army’s volunteer hour tracking system managed through Army Community Service (ACS). By registering with VMIS, volunteers are able to manage their own volunteer hours and approved hours will be recognized throughout your Army career as officially completed hours. Contact ACS, your unit BOSS representative or the BOSS President at the Installation BOSS office for a VMIS registration instruction packet.

4. How can I become a BOSS representative?

BOSS representatives are the voice of the single service member. BOSS reps are expected to attend meetings, volunteer at least once a month, and be dedicated to the BOSS mission of representing single Service Members. To become a BOSS representative, interested candidates must complete a Representative Appointment Memo and have it signed by their Commander. Contact the Installation BOSS President to request the BOSS Representative Appointment Memo. Please know that all are welcome to attend BOSS meetings and functions even if they are not an official BOSS Rep.

5. Can I get credit for my BOSS volunteer service?

Yes, you can! Logged and approved volunteer hours will be recognized throughout your military career as officially completed hours. Approved hours can also count towards your Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal (MOVSM), President Volunteer Service Award or a Certificate of Appreciation.

6. Who can attend BOSS meetings?

Anyone who wishes to attend a BOSS meeting is always welcome.

7. How can I find out who is the BOSS program manager at my installation?

Contact your local BOSS office, MWR website, speak with your unit BOSS reps, ask leadership for information or go to the top of this page, locate the "Email Us" button and submit an inquiry requesting your current installation's POC.

8. What kind of activities and events are offered through BOSS?

BOSS has many events ranging from Recreation and Leisure, Community Service as well as Life skills activities. These events change on a monthly basis so you will need to get involved with BOSS to get an updated listing of events.

9. How do I become a part of BOSS?

Contact BOSS by reaching out to your unit BOSS Representative or the Installation BOSS President at +1 (254)287-6116 or +1 (254)245-4040. BOSS contact info can also be found on your units BOSS Board.

10. Where are BOSS meetings held?

BOSS Meetings are held every 1st Thursday of the month and every 3rd Thursday of the month at BOSS HQ Bldg. 9212 Old Ironsides Ave, at 2 p.m.

The Better Opportunities for Single Service Members (BOSS) program represents the voice of the single Service member. If you're a single Service member, BOSS members advocate for you by advancing quality of life issues on the installation, and in the barracks, to senior leaders on post and throughout the Army.  "Let Your Voice Be Heard"

The BOSS program is based on three program pillars:

  • Quality of Life
  • Community Service
  • Recreation and Leisure

As a member of BOSS, you have a voice in how you live, how you spend your leisure time and how you support the community around you. BOSS Single Service Members:

  • Coordinate and participate in community service projects
  • Organize recreation and leisure activities
  • Actively support the quality of life needs of single Service members

BOSS Volunteers

Want to get involved in the community and don't know how? Join BOSS on one of our many volunteer outings or opportunities.

Examples of program participation:

  • Fundraisers
  • Event setup and breakdown
  • Event station support
  • Community projects

Garrison BOSS programs are managed by a Senior Enlisted Advisor, MWR Advisor and BOSS President. BOSS serves the Single Service member Community - active, guard and reserve - and single parents, geographical bachelors, all US Military Service Branches and Foreign Service Members assigned to the Installation.

BOSS membership and the program's available leadership and project management roles enhance your promotion packets. Learn more about BOSS and how to become a member.
